Rev. Clark Arthur Hock

Rev. Clark Arthur Hock, 88, of Carlisle, PA on Wednesday, May 4th 2022, died at home surrounded by his family. Born November 16, 1933 in Scotland, PA to Catharine (Dice) Hock and David A. Hock.
Married to the love of his life Miriam Arlene Mann of Clayton, OH on September 29, 1956. In partnership with Miriam, Rev. Hock had a long and distinguished career as a pastor. He served two congregations in the Brethren in Christ denomination: Union Grove Church in New Paris, IN (1956-58), and Fairland Church in Cleona, PA (1958-65). In the United Church of Christ denomination he served Annapolis, MD UCC (1965-85), Olivet Congregational in Olivet, MI (1986-2000) and Trinity UCC in Mercersburg, PA (2001- 07).
Clark and Miriam met at Messiah College where he earned his BA in 1955. While pastoring in Cleona, Clark earned his B.Div. from Lancaster Theological Seminary (1963). In 1973, while in Annapolis, he earned his master’s degree in sacred theology (1973). While in Michigan, he was awarded an honorary D.Div. from Olivet College (1996). Clark was perhaps best known for his love of books and his insatiable appetite for learning. By his retirement, he had accumulated over 7,000 books that Miriam had meticulously catalogued and labeled according to the Library of Congress system.
Survived by sisters, Florence Miller, Janet Graham and Delores McGuire, children Arthur Patton-Hock, Karen Walker, Kathy Smith and Beverly Hock, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
