Rene Alvarez

Rene Alvarez, 85 of Carlisle, died Saturday June 2, 2012 in his home.
Born on November 28, 1926 in Ybor City, the son of the late Antonio and Lily Mars Alvarez.
Mr. Alvarez graduated from Hillsborough High School. Mr. Alvarez had a distinguished career as an executive with the American Can Company for over 40 years. As a young man, Rene played basket ball for the University of Tampa and softball on a company-sponsored team.
He was a former member of the Carlisle Country Club and was an avid golfer. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church. Rene was a US Army Veteran serving in WWII.

Surviving are his wife, Elaine Alvarez, two step-sons, John Lightner and his wife Mary, Easley, SC and Daniel Lightner and his wife Susan, Carlisle, a step-daughter, Annette Warmelink and her husband, Michael, Indiana, a sister, Olga Fernandez and her husband Albert, Wimauma, FL, seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his former wife Rose Marie Lambert, a daughter, Noreen Alvarez and two brothers, Louis and Harry Alvarez.
A Memorial Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, June 21, 2012 in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 E. High St., Carlisle with the Rev. Charles A. Brophy officiating.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
