Regis Michael Byrnes, R.I.P., 72, loving husband, father, granddad, and friend, passed peacefully and surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home on July 31, 2015.
Formerly of Lincroft, NJ, Rege recently moved to Carlisle, PA to be closer to his children and grandchildren. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA to the late John M. and Margaret E. Byrnes. Rege grew up on a farm in Saxonburg, PA with his brother John and sisters Peggy (Ferguson) and Susan (Stark). The farm was where Rege learned to love the outdoors, a passion he passed on to his children and grandchildren. Some of his favorite pastimes were fishing, walking in the woods, and golfing.
After graduating from high school, Rege joined the U.S. Air Force. While in London on assignment, he met his life-long love, companion, and wife to be, Frances (Fran). Rege attended Penn Technical Institute in Pittsburgh and was recruited by Western Electric of Newark, NJ. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Rutgers University and spent much of his career with AT&T and Lucent Technologies until retiring in 2000. Once retired, he became an avid golfer and was fortunate to play many courses all over the world. His favorite was Hominy Hill in Colts Neck, NJ. He spent many hours happily golfing with friends, and encouraged his grandsons (who are now hooked) to play.
Rege is survived by his loving wife, Fran; his son, Owen (and wife Stephanie); daughter Audrey (and husband Jim Young, whom Rege considered another son); daughter Eve (and husband Avery Ellis); grandsons Bennett and Aidan Young; granddaughter Aoife; brother John Byrnes; sisters Peggy Ferguson, Pittsburgh, PA and Susan Stark, Saxonburg, PA; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and his beloved U.S. and overseas family.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, and grandchildren, his many wonderful friends and family, and anyone lucky enough to have been touched by his generous and gentle spirit and his kind heart and smile.
