Randall “Randy” F. Rakers, 64 of Carlisle and formerly of New Baden, IL, died peacefully on Tuesday October 15, 2019 in his home.
Born on June 5, 1955 in New Baden, IL, the son of Francis “Bud” Rakers, New Baden, IL and the late Mary Jo Smith Rakers and the widow of Betty Lou Stambaugh Rakers
Randy retired after 39 years of service at USAHEC, where he was the Chief of Classifieds Holding Branch. He worked for TNN Motorsports/Diamond P, producing World of Outlaws races and NHRA. He previously was a radio host on WHYL, with the program “Randy Rakers Racing Report”. He was a US Army Veteran and served with the PA National Guard. He was a member of the VFW Post 477, Carlisle and the Carlisle Lodge 260
Randy was an avid hunter and sportsman, and was extremely active with the Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors, working with many veterans. He was also very active and a life-time member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, volunteering with the Wheelin’ Sportsman Program, helping disabled hunters and Jakes Program, helping teach hunter education. Above all, Randy loved his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his father, Randy is survived by three daughters, Shyla Rakers, Newville, Melissa Henry (and her husband Michael), Newville and Heather Rakers, Carlisle, a sister, Debra Snyder, New Baden, IL, six grandchildren, Joshua, Elizabeth, Christopher, Betty, Trevor and Malachi and a great-grandchild, Emmett. Randy was preceded in death by a son, Randy Lee Rakers,
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 21, 2019 in the Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, Carlisle PA 17013. There will be a viewing from 5:00 – 8:00 pm Sunday in the funeral home and from 1:00 pm Monday until the time of the service. Burial, with Military Honors, will he held at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors, 1117 Country Club Road, Camp Hill PA 17011
