Ralph L. Jacoby of Carlisle, died Sunday, December 4, 2011 at M. S. Hershey Medical Center.
Ralph was the son of the late George W. and Nancy Zeigler Jacoby of Newville. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Newville. He was active in the church council for four years, chairman of the Refugee Committee and chairman of the Evangelism and Social Ministry Committee. Ralph graduated from Carlisle High School in 1946. He enlisted for four years in the Air Force as an electronics specialist during the Korean Conflict. Ralph graduated from Bucknell University in 1957 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Masters of Education from North Adams State, MA in 1975.
He retired from the Aerospace Division of the General Electric Company in 1989 with 32 years of service. Ralph was a manager of a group of Engineers, Technical Specialists and Data Analysis of the Naval Air Command Department located in Pittsfield, MA. His work tasks included assembly and testing of the inertial guidance systems and components for the missile systems for the Polaris, Poseidon, and Trident Programs contracted with the Naval Special Projects Department located in the Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
Ralph is survived by his wife of 23 years, Linda Jacoby of Carlisle, a step-son, Michael Mitchell of Newville, a step-daughter, Carol Hockenberry and husband, Samuel of Boiling Springs; seven grandchildren; one brother, John and wife Joanne of Colts Neck, NJ. He was preceded in death by his brother, George Jacoby.
He enjoyed golf with “Elmosâ€Â Monday’s Retirees and taking his grandchildren to Letort Park. Ralph was a member of AARP, American Society for Quality Control and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 51 West Main Street, Newville with Rev. Dana Blouch-Hanson officiating. Burial will be in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Newville with military honors conducted by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. A viewing will be held Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.
