R. Leverne "Sam" Shughart, 85, of Carlisle went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 26, 2013 with his loving family by his side.
Born August 11, 1928 in Carlisle, he was a son of the late Norman and Esther Miller Shughart.
He was a life-time farmer. Sam was a member of Community Christian Fellowship Church, Carlisle; a member of the P.F.A.; a member of North Middleton Senior Citizens Association; and a member of Middlesex Sportsmen Club. He was an avid hunter, Phillies baseball fan, and also enjoyed the time spent with his loving family.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Betty M. Thrush Shughart who were married on April 5, 1953; one son, Ronald L. Shughart (and wife, Catherine) of Carlisle; one daughter, Cindy L. Fraker (and husband, Jim) of Carlisle; one brother, L. Eugene Shughart (and wife, Jane) of Carlisle; two sisters, Mary Gensler (and husband, Dick) of Boiling Springs and Kathleen Rynard of Carlisle; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Lorry Shughart; three brothers, Leon, Neil, and Creedin Shughart; and one sister, Genevie Hoover.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 30, 2013 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle with Rev. Sandy Adams, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle. A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday, December 29, 2013 and also on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
