Phyllis M. Mercer, 78, of Carlisle, died Thursday, May 29, 2014 at her home.
Born September 25, 1935 in Martinsburg, WV, she was a daughter of the late Oliver, Sr. and Lona McDonald Kidwell.
She was formerly employed by Kinney Shoe and United Telephone Company. Phyllis was a member of Lafayette Chapter 222, Order of Eastern Star, Selinsgrove. She enjoyed flowers and gardening.
Surviving are her husband of sixty-one years, Clifton L. Mercer of Carlisle; one son Jeff S. Mercer of Mt. Holly Springs; one daughter, Terri Shields (and husband, Al) of Carlisle; one sister, Anna Lea Barthlow of Martinsburg, WV; two granddaughters, Amber Hohman (and husband, Robert) and Kelley Mercer, both of St. Louis, MO; two great-grandchildren, Garrett Thomas and Lilly Hohman; one step-granddaughter, Amy Shields of Carlisle; and one step-great-granddaughter, Adleigh Beam and several nieces. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Calvin, Alvin and Oliver, Jr. and three sisters, Pauline, Kathleen, and Opal.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle with Pastor Matthew Plant officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
