Peter R. Hedrick, age 68, of Eilliotsburg passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in New York, NY on September 21, 1950 to the late Nelson and Judith Rosen Hedrick.
Peter was a graduate of Bellport High School New York Class of 1968 and received a Bachelor of Professional Studies from Empire State College. He was a life-long learner, who instilled that trait in his daughter.
He was a compassionate individual always looking to do the right thing and expecting nothing in return. He had an incredible sense of humor and was quite the storyteller. He could connect with strangers and easily brighten their day with a silly comment or uplifting compliment.
He loved animals and especially had a true compassion for miniature donkeys. He and his wife Emily enjoyed spending days on the water kayaking and canoeing, hiking at Little Buffalo State Park, and riding recumbent trikes on the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail.
Peter is survived by his loving wife, Emily L. Burt-Hedrick. They celebrated 44 years of marriage on September 7. He is also survived by one daughter, Keshet Burt-Hedrick of National Park, NJ; and two brothers, Richard Hedrick and wife Sara of Spring City, PA and James Hedrick and wife Edee of Kinderhook, NY. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Hedrick.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 10:30 am at Beth Tikvah Cemetery, McClures Gap Road, Carlisle. A memorial service will be held at a future date. Shiva will be observed at Emily and Peter’s home from September 26 through October 2, 2018.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central PA, Little Longears Miniature Donkey Rescue or Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA 17013.
