Paul J. Vanasdlen, 87, of Newville, passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Green Ridge Village.
He was born March 4, 1931 in Newville to the late George and Mary (Etter) Vanasdlen and was the widower of Betty Jane (Mullen) Vanasdlen.
Paul was a life member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Airee 1299, VFW Post 7343, American Legion Post 101 and the NRA. He was a former member of the Sailors Association of Perry County. Paul honorably served his country in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Leyte. He enjoyed hunting and socializing with his friends at the many social clubs he belonged to, including the Jim Thorpe Charter of Carlisle Camping Group. Paul retired from AMP after 36 years of employment as a tool and die maker.
He is survived by his loving companion of 22 years Betty Jane Eyer; one stepson, Gary Lee Barrick; three brothers, Glen, Ronald, and Robert Vanasdlen; three sisters, Naomi Helms, Kay Phillips and Cecelia Fulton; three step grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle, PA 17013 with Rev. Barbara D. Albert officiating. Burial will follow at Westminster Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
