Paul A. Keener

Paul A. Keener, 74, of Carlisle went to be with his Lord on March 7, 2013, Born July 12, 1938, in Shippensburg, he was the son of the late Paul E. and Anna C. (Horst) Keener.
Paul was an active member of St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ, Carlisle Springs where he served many years as an elder and consistory member. He thoroughly enjoyed the times shared with others doing church improvement projects.
Paul was a bricklayer by trade, serving as president and vice president with John E. Keener, Inc. much of his life and retired as a salesman for Tri-Boro Construction Supplies in February.
He was a member of the Carlisle Fish & Game; Potomac Antique Tools & Industry Association; Midwest Tool Collectors Association; past board member of the Harrisburg Builders Exchange; past president and long time member of the Mason Contractors Associations of Central; and, a lifetime member and three-time president of The Hardware Companies Kollectors Klub;
Paul spent much of his free time as an avid antique hardware collector and sportsman enthusiast. He enjoyed nature and the outdoors and loved deer hunting at one of his favorite places, the Keener Kamp in Potter County.
Paul had a very close relationship with his Lord, a passion to serve God and to serve others throughout his life. He had a great abundance of love for his family, children, friends and church.
Paul was preceded in death by a loving father and mother; his second wife Virginia L. (Swank) Keener and his eldest brother, John E. Keener.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara (Huhn) Keener of Carlisle; his two sons, Paul A. Keener Jr. (and wife, Laura) of Millerstown and Jamie B. Keener (and wife, Stephanie) of Camp Hill; and his daughter, Ann M. (Keener) Wise of Camp Hill; six beloved grand-children, Kaylee and Kelsey; Spencer, Aidan and Jenna; and Logan; his brothers, Clarence Keener (and wife, Elaine) of Shippensburg; Ivan Keener (and wife, Vickie) of South Carolina; Mark Keener (and wife, Beth) of Nyesville; and sisters, Marian Martin of State Line and Esther Witmer (and husband, Raymond) of West Virginia; his step children Lauren Stilwell (and husband, Steve) of Hughesville; Miki Leach (and husband, Brian) of Milton; Jeffrey Nevius of Catawissa; Scott Blair (and wife, Brenda) and Janet Winkelmann (and husband, Mark) of St. Louis; and nine step grandchildren.
Paul was a strong, wonderful and fun-loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He blessed many lives as a great teacher, mentor, friend and witness. A true ambassador for Christ, Paul’s greatest desire was for God to receive the glory in his life and death.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m., March 12 at St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ, with Paul’s dear friend, the Rev. Dr. Timothy Dugan officiating. A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Guests are invited to join the family after the service in the church social hall.
