Patricia Jean Eckman, 72, of Carlisle passed away on Monday, July 14, 2014 at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
She was born September 16, 1941 in Chambersburg to the late Eugene and Florence (Snyder) Diven.
Pat graduated from Northern York High School, the class of 1959. She earned both her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Shippensburg State College. Following graduation, Pat taught business education at Bermudian Springs High School. After a number of years, she accepted a job with Carlisle Tire & Rubber Company, where she was employed for 35 years, retiring from Carlisle Tire & Wheel in 2001 as Manager of Inventory Control. Pat was an active member of the First United Church of Christ, where she was a member of the First Ladies, assisted as a mentor for confirmands, and served as an attendant for children's Sunday school. She was the treasurer of the Northern Alumni Association, and held various offices in the 1950-1959 Northern Class Reunion Association. Previously, she was a member of the Executive Women International. Most recently, Pat served as President of the Friends of the Bosler Library until her illness required her to give up her duties, although she continued to volunteer as she was able. Pat thoroughly enjoyed spending time family and friends, working in her gardens, and especially the weeks with family at Myrtle Beach.
Pat is survived by her husband and best friend, Walter (Wally) Eckman and her children, Daniel Myers and wife Patricia, Deborah Myers Clark, Amy Eckman Maurer and husband Ian, and Ian Eckman and wife Shirley, eight precious grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, as well as her brother David Diven and wife Patricia, and nephew Eric.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the First United Church of Christ, 30 N. Pitt St., Carlisle. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 10 a.m.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to benefit the Bosler Memorial Library, 158 West High Street, Carlisle, PA 17013 and/or the American Cancer Society, 2 Lemoyne Drive, Suite 101, Lemoyne, PA 17043.
