Mona Fern Garland, 86, of Carlisle, died Friday, February 7, 2014 in Forest Park Health Center, Carlisle.
She was born November 3, 1927 in Needmore, PA, a daughter of the late William and Etta Waltz Clark and the widow of George Cecil Garland.
Mrs. Garland taught Home Economics for 18 years in junior and senior high at Forbes Road and McConnellsburg Schools. Mona was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and quilting. Fern enjoyed traveling to Florida, where she spent most of her retirement with her husband.
Surviving are a daughter, Judy Gwen Kochert, of Carlisle, a grandson, Erik Kochert, and his wife, Allie, of York, and three great-grandchildren, Leah, Gabriel, and Caleb. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan E. Kochert, a sister, Mildred Truax, and a brother, John Abrams.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am Saturday, February 15, 2014 in Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home and Crematory, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle with Rev. Daniel Menniti officiating. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery, Carlisle. There will be a visitation from 10:30 am Saturday until the time of the service in the funeral home.
