Mildred V. Duncan, age 94, of Carlisle, died Thursday, April 12, 2018, at Thornwald Home in Carlisle.
She was born June 8, 1923 in Carlisle, to the late William Scott and Mary Martha (Boyles) Brown, and was the widow of the late Chester E. Duncan who passed away in July of 2006. They had been married for over 60 years.
Mildred retired as a longtime employee of the Piezo Crystal Manufacturing Plant in Carlisle. As well, she was a former member of Otterbein United Methodist Church. In her free time, she loved gardening, cooking, baking, and watching any and every sporting event. Most dear of all, she was active in her grandchildren’s lives.
Mildred is survived by: a son, Barry Duncan (and wife Laura) of Carlisle; brothers Robert Brown and Richard Brown (and wife Linda); sisters Etta McCoy and Margaret Bricker (and husband Robert); grandsons Scott Duncan (and wife Jennifer) and Shane M. Duncan (and wife April); a granddaughter, Ashley N. Diller (and husband Jordan); great-grandchildren Jasmine Duncan, Gwendolyn Duncan, and Bryce Diller; and granddog Chester. In addition to her parents and husband, Mildred is preceded in death by: her son, Robert Duncan; brothers Gerald Brown and William Brown; and sisters Mary Bistline and Doris Thomas.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road, Carlisle, with Pastor Harold Gilbert officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery at Churchtown. There will be a viewing at the funeral home from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, and on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mildred’s honor to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 897, Rte 422 & Sipe Avenue, Hershey, PA 17033.
