Mildred M. Behrens, 87, of Carlisle, died Sunday, April 13, 2014 at the Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle.
Born October 7, 1926 in Carlisle, she was a daughter of the late Ray and Mira Heiser Albright and the widow of James B. Behrens.
She attended the Carlisle High School and was a graduate of Carlisle Commercial College. She worked on her father's farm and his car lot on the Ritner Highway. Mildred later worked for Mountz Jewelers and the cafeteria of the Carlisle School. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Carlisle and taught Sunday school at the former McAllister Church, where she also assisted with Vacation Bible School. Mildred served as Cub Scout Den Mother and a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She was a "Block Parent" in Carlisle who provided care for neighborhood children. Mildred assisted the poor when she saw a need. She was a member with her husband of the Ka-Bob Hiking Club.
Surviving are one son, James R. Behrens (and wife, Katherine) of Hughesville; one daughter, Saundra "Sandy" McClintock (and husband, Ron) of Carlisle; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Roger and Marcus Albright and one sister, Mary Koser.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle with Rev. Dr. James R. Behrens officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.
