Mildred H. Stone, 93 of Carlisle died Sunday June 24, 2012 in the Rock Hill Mennonite Community, Sellersville PA.
Born April 26, 1919 in Carlisle, the daughter of the late Christian A. and Viola Herman Hertzler and the widow of Paul L. Stone.
Mrs. Stone was a graduate of Boiling Springs High School and Shippensburg University. She taught school in Monroe, South Middleton and Carlisle School Districts, retiring in 1976 from Carlisle. Mildred was a member of First United Church of Christ, where she was a former Elder, sang in the choir and was a Sunday School Teacher. She was also a member of PA Association of School Retirees and AARP – Carlisle Chapter 3378. Mrs. Stone was a member of the former Carlisle Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered for the Hospital for over 20 years. She also volunteered at the Thornwald Home.
Surviving are two sons, Frank E. Stone and wife Kay, Lansdale, PA and Lee R. Stone and wife Sally, Annandale, VA, a step-sister, Orilla Kay Baton, Mechanicsburg and two half sisters, Ann H. Peiper and Orca C. Kuhn, both of Carlisle. Also, she is survived by a sister in-law, Myra S Trimmer, Carlisle. She had six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Friday June 29, 2012 in the First United Church of Christ, 30 N. Pitt St., Carlisle with the Rev. Lynn R. Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. There will be a viewing from 6:30 – 8:00 pm Thursday in the Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home and Crematory, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle and from 9:45 am until the time of the service in the church on Friday.
