Melvin E. Cornman, 67, of Carlisle, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Holy Spirit Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.
Born May 26, 1946 in Carlisle, he was a son of the late Morrell E. and Charolette Finkenbinder Cornman.
He retired from Lear Corporation in 2008 after forty-four years of service. Melvin was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers, the AFL CIO, and the Carlisle Fair Association. He was passionate about his family and enjoyed raising his children through the 4-H and FFA Program raising livestock and showing livestock at a local and state level. He enjoyed spending time with his two grandsons and traveling to Montrose to visit them. Melvin loved corvettes and working in his garden.
Surviving are his wife of forty-three years, Betty Jane (Sheaffer) Cornman of Carlisle; two children, Michael Cornman (and wife, Diane) of Elizabethtown and Michelle Kowalewski (and husband, Mike) of Montrose, PA; two grandchildren, Andrew and Christopher; and one sister, Clover Haycock of Shippensburg.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle with Rev Daniel R. Mikesell officiating. Burial will be in Letort Cemetery, Carlisle. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
