Maynard L. Long, Jr., 61, of Carlisle died on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
Maynard was born in Carlisle to his parents, the late Maynard L. Long and Ruth A. Henry Long. He was the husband of Sandra L. Long (Fulton) of Carlisle. They celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary on May 4, 2015.
Maynard was the owner and operator of Long Acres Farm, Carlisle, where he raised and trained American Paint and Pinto horses for more than 40 years. He was an avid 4-H leader in the Horse Division and a member and organizational leader for 30 years in 4-H. He was also a member and leader of the Cumberland County Mounted Drill Team. He was the Past President of the PA Paint Horse Club and Past President of the PA Pinto Horse Club. He had a great passion and natural ability for growing flowers and arranging potted plants and flowers.
In addition to his loving wife Sandra, Maynard is survived by a son, Trevor W. Long (wife Kristin) of Carlisle and a grandson Wyatt S. Long also of Carlisle. He is also survived by four sisters, Faye Hain (husband Ray), Thelma Snyder (husband Paul), Brenda Long, all of Carlisle and Judy Johnston (husband Lee) of Minnesota and a brother, Jesse Long (wife Joyce) of Carlisle. He was predeceased by a sister, Louise Otto and a brother, Leroy Long.
A viewing will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening, September 2, 2015 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home and Crematory. A viewing will also be held at St. Matthews United Church of Christ, 3240 Spring Road, Carlisle, PA 17013 on Thursday, September 3, 2015 beginning at 10:00 a.m. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthews United Church of Christ with the Reverend Timothy P. Dugan officiating. Interment will follow the service at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Penn State Cooperative Extension of Cumberland County 4-H Division, 310 Allen Road, Carlisle, PA 17013.
