Matthew Brent Karper

Matthew B. Karper, 45, of Mechanicsburg passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 12, 2019.

Born on June 20, 1974 in Carlisle, he was the son of Richard Karper and Cheryl Calaman Niswonger.

Matt was a graduate of Big Spring High School where he excelled in football and basketball. He was also a graduate of Central Penn College where he played both golf and basketball. He later worked as the Central Penn College basketball coach and at LGBS as a legal manager. He was an avid follower of all sports, especially football, basketball, wrestling and golf. He enjoyed traveling, music, attending Pittsburgh Steelers games and spending time with family and friends.

Matt is survived by his loving wife, Carrie of Mechanicsburg; daughter, Taylor Karper of Kutztown; son, Ethan Karper of Mechanicsburg; father, Richard Karper of Waterfall, PA; mother, Cheryl Calaman Niswonger and stepfather Paul Niswonger of Carlisle; stepmother Jennifer Karper Smith of York, PA; grandmother, Doris Calaman of Carlisle; grandparents John and Libby Ritz of Dover, PA; sisters, Tara Karper and (Nicholas Etter) of Carlisle, Laurel Karper of Bluffton, SC, Venessa Henry of Mechanicsburg and Julie McNaughton (Vance) of Millerstown; brothers, Wyatt Karper of Three Springs, PA, Robert (Angela) Niswonger of Carlisle, and Paul Jr. (Laura) Niswonger of Yukon, OK; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Jack Henry and uncles Rod Henry and Gregg Calaman.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at 12 noon at the Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Mechanicsburg following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Matthew Karper memorial fund at Member’s 1st.
