Mathilde “Till†Yates Carter, 86, of Boiling Springs, died Thursday, June 28, 2012 at her home.
Born January 12, 1926 in West Point, MS, she was a daughter of the late James Daniel and Lottie Ivy Yates Carter.
She received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Alabama and a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Shippensburg. She retired as Acquisition Librarian of the MHI at the US Army War College, Carlisle. Her passion was horse racing, having been to Kentucky Derby and Preakness. Mathilde taught horseback riding in her youth.
Surviving are her nephews, Marshall Dixon (and wife, Heather Michelle) and his step daughter, Megan Ashley Peters; George Frances Dixon III of Carbondale, CO and Richard Elliott Dixon of Florida; niece, Charolotte Ivy Dixon (and husband, Charles Altschul) and their daughter, great niece, Stephanie Ivy Altschul of Camden, MA. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lottie “Candy†Ivy Dixon and lifelong friend, Doris Hunter.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 2, 2012 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle with The Rev. Cannon Mark A. Scheneman officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Churchtown.
