Mary Jane Swigert, 83, of Carlisle died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community, Carlisle.
Born Dec. 22, 1926, in Huntsdale, she was a daughter of the late William and Nora Rice Albright and the widow of Wayne K. Swigert.
She completed Centerville grade school before attending and graduating from Carlisle High School. Mary Jane graduated as a registered nurse upon completion of schooling at Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg. She worked in the nursery at Carlisle Hospital and as a director of nursing at Thornwald Home, Carlisle.
Mary Jane was a member of First United Church of Christ, Carlisle, a member of Whirl Away Square Dance Club and a former member of the Eastern Star.
She was a long-time volunteer for the Board of Elections and also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Surviving are one son, Kurry Swigert (and wife, Debra) of Mt. Holly Springs; two grandchildren, Anna Hill (and husband, Barry) of Carlisle and Kelly Jane Swigert of Elizabethtown; one great-grandchild, Isaac Hill; three sisters, Nancy Nickel of West Palm Beach, Fla., Thelma Tritt of Carlisle and Annabelle Bixler of Carlisle; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Shank; and one brother, William Albright.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. Lynn R. Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
