Mary I. Baker, age 91, of Carlisle, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Chapel Pointe at Carlisle.
She was born April 24, 1926 in Cumberland County to the late Ralph L. and Margaret (Houston) Martin and was the widow of Robert Bryan Baker who passed March 31, 2000.
Mary grew up on a farm and worked non-stop her whole life. She enjoyed creating her own household renovation projects and was considered a Jack of all trades. When not busy with projects, she doted on her grandchildren, teaching them her mischievous ways. She was well known for her leadership and dedication to helping others as witnessed during her life as Administrator for Forest Park Nursing Home, operated by Presbyterian Homes, Inc., where she retired in 1988. She was a member of the Old Bellaire Chapter, Order of Eastern Star #375, AARP and the Soroptimist Club.
She is survived by: daughter, Sue A. (husband Jerry) Cohick of Carlisle; daughter-in-law, Anita Baker; three grandchildren, Gretchen Cohick, Nicole Cohick and Benjamin Baker; and two loving great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by: two sons, Douglas Martin Baker and Robert Bradley Baker; and three brothers, Oliver Martin, Ralph Martin, Jr. and John Martin.
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chapel Pointe at Carlisle, 770 S. Hanover Street, Carlisle, PA 17013.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA.
