Mary Ethel Yeager Nicholson, 67, of Carlisle, died April 20, 2015 at West Shore Hospital, Mechanicsburg.
She was born March 16, 1948 in Harrisburg, PA to Ethel Mary Hall Yeager and the late Lester R. Yeager.
Mary graduated from Halifax Area High School, Class of 1966 and then went on to Messiah College where she received her BS in 1970. She continued her education at The Pennsylvania State University getting her Masters in 1974. She began her teaching career in 1970 at the old Lamberton Junior High School and continued to enjoy teaching at Lamberton Middle School, Carlisle Junior High School and Carlisle High School. Mary taught Home Economics and Family and Consumer Sciences in the Carlisle Area School District for 27 years before retiring in 2011. She served for several years as the department coordinator of the former Home Economics Department. Mary was a disciple of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle where she served as a lector, a communion server and assistant, was a member of the Women's Circle 3 and the Women of the ELCA. She was a member of the Carlisle Area Newcomers Club where she served on the hospitality committee and was a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization.
In addition to her mother, Mary is survived by her husband, Gary L. Nicholson of Carlisle and a son, Ethan Y. Nicholson of Mechanicsburg.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2015 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Louther St., Carlisle with Revs. Robert W. Moore and Carol J. Bowman officiating. Interment will be at Westminster Cemetery. There will be a viewing at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 West Louther Street, Carlisle, PA 17013; Attention: Capital Campaign Fund.
