Mary Ellen Thompson, age 91, passed away at her daughter’s home in Carlisle, PA on July 27, 2017, with her loving family by her side.
She was born August 7, 1925, in White Plains, MD to the late Colin I. Davis and Sadie O. Davis and was the widow of WWII veteran Wilfred W. Thompson, who passed away July 10, 1986.
She is survived by her daughter Marilyn and son-in-law Robert McCanna, and many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Mary Ellen had been employed by the Department of Defense and served for thirty years at the Pentagon, first in the Office of Ryukyuan Affairs and then with the Army Joint Staff where she was awarded the Meritorious Service Award, the highest award given to an Army civilian.
Arrangements are being made for a private service at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA at 4 PM on Monday, July 31, 2017. She will be buried with her husband at 1 PM on August 1, 2017, at Quantico National Cemetery at Quantico, VA.
The family wishes to thank Celtic Hospice and especially Amy, Roger, JoAnn, Pam and Hailey for their compassionate and professional care in Mary Ellen’s final days.
