Mary Elizabeth Good, 90, of Carlisle, died Thursday, April 10, 2014 in the Forest Park Health Center and Rehabilitation, Carlisle.
Born February 22, 1924 in Bloserville, a daughter of the late Charles W. and Mae Bell Mixell Smith whom she remembers as good and kind parents. The widow of Samuel M. Good who died in 1986. The unique story of the place of her marriage was that she and Samuel were wed in the room in which she was born where her parents had remodeled a bedroom into a living room in their home.
She retired after thirty-seven years of service from the former C. H. Masland and Sons, Carlisle. She also worked for five years at the Carlisle Weis Store. She was a former member of St. James Lutheran Church, Bloserville, where she taught Sunday School in the Primary Department for many years. At a service at Forest Park on Jun 16, 2011, Mary was delighted to see and hear the voice of Ray Snyder who had been a student of hers in her Sunday School class at St. James. While residing in Forest Park Mary was the best friend of Grace Yohe who she met as a roommate. However, Mary was a loving person who tried to reach out to many of the residents who needed a friend. Mary was faithful in all of her life's activities. She remained a loving and caring wife in her marriage of forty-two years. She was a loving mother to Kathryn and Arleda. Before going to Forest Park, Mary enjoyed camping, needlepoint, caring for her pets, especially her granddogs, Tina Marie, Cassie Lynn, Precious Ann, and her cat Tammy Jo.
Surviving are her two loving daughters, Arlenda K. Shindel (and husband, Charles) and Kathryn R. Quigley, both of Carlisle and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lester Smith and sister, Ruth Finkey.
