Mary Elizabeth Forden Whitman, 93, of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at Green Ridge Village, Newville, Pennsylvania.
She was born in Buffalo, New York, on May 9, 1929. She was the daughter of the late William and Amy Adams Forden, Jr. of Buffalo, New York.
Mary was raised in both Buffalo and East Aurora, New York. After her marriage to Adelbert (Bert) W. Whitman, she lived most of her adult life in Allentown, Pennsylvania, then Carlisle. She and Bert were married for 38 years and raised four daughters.
Bert has preceded her in death on July 23, 1994.
Mary dedicated her life to being a wife and raising her children.
She is survived by her daughters: Elizabeth A. Erle and her husband, Patrick, of Hemphill, Texas; Priscilla M. Whitman-Stambaugh and her husband, John, of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; Carolynne F. Cooper and her husband, David, of Vienna, West Virginia; and Amy E. Seeger and her husband, Kenneth, of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by six grandsons and two granddaughters as well as four great granddaughters, two sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mary was preceded in death by both her parents and her brother, David W. Forden, of Arlington, Virginia.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2022, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 204 E. Burd Street, Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. A reception will follow the funeral and interment will follow the reception at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens in Carlisle.
