Mary E. Rice

Mary E. Rice, age 93, of Carlisle, passed away Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Thornwald Home.
She was born November 2, 1923 in Shannondale, PA to the late Charles A. and Elsie Rosella (Sayers) Wolfgong and was the widow of Paul E. Rice who passed March 12, 2011.
Mary retired as a Teacher’s Aide after serving for many years with the Capital Area Intermediate Unit. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by: one daughter, Carol A. Brandt of Carlisle; three grandchildren, William Brandt of Carlisle, Dana (and husband Clint) Bowers of Carlisle and Elisha (and husband Jonathan) Rosa of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and five great-grandchildren, Zachary and Tyler Brandt, Bryce Walker and Michael and Matthew Rosa. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Arthur Brandt; four brothers, Melvin, Nathan, Blair and Amos Wolfgong; and five sisters, Madeline, Narrie, Lena, Vera and Ruth.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 21 S. Bedford St., Carlisle, PA with her pastor, Rev. Lisa M. Leber officiating. Burial will be private at Westminster Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 21 S. Bedford St., Carlisle, PA 17013.
