Mary (Dillard) Sewell, age 89, of Carlisle, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Cumberland Crossings, Carlisle.
She was born November 29, 1928 in Dover, PA to the late Alfred Terrell and Mary Cosby (LaRue) Dillard, and was divorced from the late Oscar Charles Sewell, who passed in July of 1995.
Mary attained her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Rider College, NJ, her Master’s degree in Education from Marywood University, PA, and her Doctorate in Early Childhood Education from Nova University, FL. Her passion was Elementary Education, her last position being at Maple Shade Elementary School, in Bristol, PA. In her free time, she loved to read, play cards, crochet, and listen to music. She greatly appreciated good banter, flowers, and ice cream. She once met both Pearl Buck and Eleanor Roosevelt (not at the same time). She had traveled extensively in the US, including to Alaska and Hawaii, and to the Caribbean, Europe, South America, Australia, and the Middle East. Her favorite trips were to China and Egypt.
She is survived by: a daughter, Dawn LaRue Sewell McKeever (Matthew) of Washington D.C.; sons, Dean Charles Sewell (Jacqui) of Marietta, GA, and Mark Dillard Sewell of Fairless Hills, PA; two sisters, Brooke Dillard Brozio of Fairless Hills, PA and Sandra Dillard Bailey of Southern Pines, NC; grandchildren, Simone Sanchez (Chris) of Elmsford, NY, Cody Ryan Sewell of Marietta, GA, Alexandra McKeever of Washington, DC and Lois McKeever of Milan, Italy; great-grandchildren, Craig, Christopher and Samantha Virginia; niece, Cathy Lindsey (Marc Toser) of Carlisle; and many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and her beloved dog, Chloe.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment will be private and at the discretion of the family.
