Marvin R. Valentine, age 87, of Carlisle, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2015 at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born on July 13, 1928 in Troy, OH to the late Oscar E. and Martha E. Coppess Valentine and was the widower of Grace M. Briner Valentine.
Marvin was a retired truck driver for National Cash Register Co. of Ohio. He was also retired from the Commonwealth of PA, Department of Youth Development Center in Loysville. He was a member of the Loysville Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie #1299, West Fairview American Legion Post #984 and the Goodwill Ambulance Association. He was a proud veteran of the US Army and served during the Korean Conflict. Marvin was an avid Ohio State "Buckeye" fan, loved hunting and enjoyed being outdoors. His family meant the most to him.
He is survived by his five daughters, Brenda J. Wilson of Vandalia, OH, Sondy Sheaffer of Carlisle, Barbara Sheaffer of Carlisle, Becky Harner of Carlisle and Renee (and husband George) Huff of Ormond Beach, FL; three sons, Scott Valentine of Dayton, OH, Billy (and wife Sandy) Sheaffer of Newville and Robert (and wife Donna) Sheaffer of Lancaster; one sister, Judy M. Valentine of Vandalia, OH; twenty grandchildren; twenty five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2015 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle with Pastor Tim Wheeler and Rev. Arlene Dunn, Chaplain of Celtic Hospice officiating. There will be a visitation at the funeral home from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday. Interment will be in Blain Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In respect to Marvin, the family asks that all those in attendance either wear Ohio State colors or to dress in crimson.
