Martha Susan Faley

January 31, 1945 — March 4, 2019

Martha Susan Faley of Boiling Springs passed away on Monday, March 4, 2019 in her home while surrounded by her loving family.
She was the loving wife of COL (Ret) Thomas E. Faley for over fifty years.
Born on January 31, 1945 at Fort Benning, GA, she was the daughter of the late Brigadier General Clarence Clapsaddle and Martha (Kohl) Clapsaddle. Susan or “Sue”, as her friends liked to call her, graduated from Baker High School in Columbus, GA in 1962 and subsequently attended the Washington School for Secretaries in 1962-1963. From 1963-1964 she worked as a legal secretary in Monmouth, NJ while living with her parents at Fort Hancock, NJ. She married US Army LT Tom Faley in June of 1964 at the historic chapel at Fort Hancock, NJ. Susan’s warm personality and engaging manner radiated through her husband’s various assignments and commands over a thirty-year period. She was a dedicated and devoted mother to her three daughters. Her greatest joy was interacting with her family and rejoicing in their many achievements. Sue loved children and volunteered to be a teacher’s aide on many army posts. In 1982 she received a citation from the 3rd Infantry Division Commanding General for her efforts as Chairperson of the school volunteer program with thirty-eight volunteers.
Sue is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Thomas Faley of Boiling Springs; three daughters, Katherine Wech of Mechanicsburg, Mary Garza and Rebecca Hodne both of Tampa, FL; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her brother, Peter Clapsaddle.
