SSG Marshall E. “Ernie” Powell, Sr., age 78, of Carlisle, passed away Monday evening, September 17, 2018 at his residence with his loving family by his side.
He was born August 4, 1940 in Pittsfield, MA to the late MaryEllen (Vanslyck) and Ernest William Powell, Jr. He was the husband of Anna M. (Dunkleberger), whom he married April 1, 1994.
Ernie retired from the US Army as a Staff Sergeant and Military Police Officer. He was very patriotic and enjoyed every day of his 22 years in the Army. He served 13 of the 22 years in Germany and volunteered to serve two terms in Vietnam. He was a master marksman and took excellent care of his men. He was extremely proud to have served his country.
After his retirement from the US Army, he opened Ernie’s Mustang Drive. There he spent 25 years restoring and rebuilding Mustang vehicles. He loved spending time in his shop working on the vehicles teaching his sons the tools of the trade and attending auto events.
Ernie is survived by his loving wife Anna; sons, Marshall E. Powell Jr. and Garrett D. Powell; seven siblings, sister-in-law, Heather Pezoldt, Jennifer Dunkleberger; and nieces Bailey Boose (Ian) and Kelsey Ganoe. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Priscilla Dunkleberger.
Per the family’s request, services will be private. Burial will be held at a later date in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
