Marcus L. Hodge, age 87, of Carlisle, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017 at his home.
He was born June 27, 1930 in Carlisle to the late Peter Andrew and Rachel Ellen (Humphreys) Hodge.
Marcus graduated from Carlisle High School in the class of 1948 and later graduated from Williamsport Technical Institute. He worked at Woolworth’s until enlisting in the United States Air Force and continued there while attending college. Marcus worked for Attorney J.J. Macintosh, LCB, and as a draftsman for both Gannett Fleming and the PA Department of Transportation where he retired. Marcus was a longtime, active member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Trustee Board, spending many years as Chair, was a Sunday school teacher and Superintendent. He has been a longtime member of the Carlisle Y’s Men’s and Y’s Women’s club of the YMCA where he served in all capacities including past President. He served as a board member of the Cumberland County and the PA State Sunday School Associations. Marcus served as a board member on the PA and National Lord’s Day Alliance. He was past Vice-President and President of Carlisle District Sunday School Association. In addition, Marcus was a part of the Central PA Baptist Association which includes the PA Baptist Laymen’s Movement and a former Board Member of the Association’s Camp Central.
He is survived by: his wife of 58 years, Ruth E. Hodge of Carlisle; a daughter, Perrianne (husband Arthur) Davis of Durham, NC; a son, Mark Andrew Hodge of Lebanon; two grandsons, Arthur Davis II and Andrew Davis; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 165 Lincoln Street, Carlisle, PA with Pastor Daniel Keys officiating. Burial will follow at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. There will be a viewing from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA and on Wednesday at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.
