Madge M. Ziegler

April 19, 1931 — February 23, 2020

Madge Merkley Ziegler, 89, of Carlisle PA passed away with family by her side at UPMC on February 23, 2020. Madge was Born April 19th, 1931 to Wilbur and Margaret (Walker) Merkley in Middletown, NY. She graduated early from Middletown High School in 1947. She attended Hood College then earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. She went on to practice Public health nursing in the Philadelphia area which she truly enjoyed. She also taught nursing at Westfield State Sanitorium and later at Carlisle school of nursing. After becoming a full time mother, she continued to use her nursing skills to volunteer with the Salvation Army and the Red Cross.

Madge married John T. Ziegler on June 25th, 1952. She is survived by her husband of over 67 years. They moved to Carlisle in 1958 where she joined her bridge club where she remained a member for over 50 years. She enjoyed travel and also had a love for music knowing the lyrics to any song one could think of. She was a devoted mother to her four children Kimberly (Jeff) Bryant of Altamont NY., Karen (Steve) Goldfine of Johns Creek GA, John (Mary) Ziegler of Bluffton SC and Cindy (Gary) Ziegler of Richmond, VA. As family was the most important thing in her life she paid special attention to her 8 Grandchildren. Conor (Katie)Bryant, Ashley Bryant, Allison Bryant, Lauren Ziegler, David Goldfine, Jared Goldfine, Brett Goldfine and John Ziegler. She leaves a huge void in our lives but wants us to fill it with happiness. She was one of the sweetest souls to ever walk this earth. In her memory we ask for donations to the Salvation Army or charity of one's choice.
