Mable G. (Barrick) Stitt, age 78, of Carlisle, passed away Monday, September 12, 2016 at the West Shore Hospital, Mechanicsburg.
She was born and raised on the family farm in Dickinson Township to the late Victor and Emma (Whisler) Barrick on December 28, 1937.
Mable was a 1955 graduate of Carlisle High School and worked at the former Rufe Chevrolet in Carlisle right out of high school for over 26 years. She also was an elected Tax Collector for 31 years, which she loved to do. Mable worked at the Penn Township Fireman's Fair for over 50 years. She was active in 4H Club in sewing and cooking and the Baby Beef Club. Mable was a member of Barnitz United Methodist Church where she married the love of her life, Donald Stitt, on July 7, 1956. They celebrated their 60th Anniversary on July 7, 2016. She enjoyed antiques, country music, and playing cards with her many dear friends. Mable truly loved her granddaughters and the time she got to spend with them.
In addition to her husband, Mable is survived by a son, Ricky Lee Stitt, of Newville; two granddaughters, Michelle (and husband John) Weidner of Newville and Heather (and husband Tanner) Cohick of Carlisle; a sister, Vada (and husband Holbert) Keck of Carlisle; and a brother, Clyde Barrick of Carlisle. In addition to her parents, Mable was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Phyllis Barrick.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September, 16, 2016 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Matthew Plant officiating. Burial will be at Westminster Memorial Gardens. There will be a viewing from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the funeral home.
