LTC Gerald J. “Jerry” Rosie (Ret. USA), age 83, of Carlisle, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg.
He was born November 16, 1933 in Rochester, NY to the late William Joseph and Caroline (Satter) Rosie and was the widower of Lieselotte (Schwarz) Rosie who passed July 7, 2012.
Jerry retired as a Mental Health Counselor at the Helen Stevens Mental Health Center in Carlisle. He previously worked as a research technician for the Benzon Research Inc. of Carlisle and as a bookkeeper for High Peak Tent Rentals of Carlisle. He retired from the United States Army as Lieutenant Colonel after 21 years of service including two tours of duty in Vietnam as an Operations officer with the Signal Corp. Jerry was a graduate of Cornell University and received his Master’s degree in Education from Shippensburg University. He was a member of the Plainfield Lions Club, had received the “Lion of the Year” award twice and the Melvin Jones Lions Club award. He was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association, a member and past President of the Mason-Dixon Sport Fliers and a member, Secretary and past Board member of the EAA, Chapter 122, Flying Club. Jerry enjoyed flying, woodworking and was a voracious reader. His crisis intervention work never left Jerry until the end.
He is survived by: a daughter, Kathleen F. (husband Scott) Farrell of Carlisle; a son, George D. Schwarz of Modesto, CA; a brother, Robert Rosie of Dunkirk, NY; his companion, Judy G. King of Carlisle; five grandchildren, Scott Farrell, Caroline Farrell, Chriselle Hernandez, Matthew Schwarz and Kaitlin Schwarz; several great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Ronald Pelletier. In addition to his parents and wife, Gerald was preceded in death by: a son, James Rosie; a daughter, Linda Pelletier; a grandson, Billy Schwarz; and a sister, Beverly Rosie.
A Christian Wake service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Gregory D'Emma officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard following the services. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Thursday from 12 noon until the time of the services.
