Louise Hartzler Wenger went to be with her Lord and Savior on Dec 3, 2018.
Born on a farm outside Goshen, Indiana, she was the sixth daughter of Noah and Anna Hartzler. She graduated from Goshen High School in 1942 and attended the local Goshen College for two years before transferring to Wesley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Chicago, IL to receive her RN and BS degree in nursing in 1947.
In 1949, Louise married William N. Wenger (of Carlisle) in Los Angeles, CA. She and William resided in California during their first two years of marriage where Louise worked as a nurse at Upland Hospital. In 1951, they returned to William’s hometown of Carlisle and Louise assisted in the Wenger clothing business until starting a family. She became a full-time homemaker as she raised their five children. Married for 63 years, William preceded her in death on February 16, 2013.
Louise was a member of Grace Baptist church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and hosted many of the guest speakers and families. She was a very loving mother and grandmother and a gracious hostess. She and William enjoyed many years of entertaining in their country home.
Louise is survived by four of her five children, Barbara Hinderland of Queen Creek, AZ, Blenda Wenger of Carlisle, Bradford Wenger and wife, Mindy of Gardners, PA and Elizabeth Philbrick and husband, Dr. Kemuel of Rochester, MN. Also surviving is her sister, Pauline Anderson of Tucson, AZ, nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by five of her six sisters; a son, William N. Wenger Jr.; two grandsons, Bradford H. Wenger Jr. and Jason William Wenger and one great granddaughter, Emma Grace Owens.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Grace Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Westminster Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle and on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
