Louise G. Nickel

October 2, 1926 — November 8, 2014

Louise G. Nickel (Farner) 88, of Carlisle passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 8, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Walter F. Nickel, Jr., a WWII veteran. She is cherished by her three children and spouses, Walter F. Nickel, III and wife Barbara of East Berlin, PA; Michael A. Nickel and wife Cathy of Houston, TX; and Sherri L. Adler and husband Charles of Bayville, NJ. She was blessed with seven grandchildren and their spouses: Brien Nickel, wife Kris & daughter, Sara; Nathan Nickel and wife Bobbi; Tammy Rochelle and husband Jonathan; Michael Nickel Jr. and Sheryl; Charles Adler III; Elizabeth Cruz and husband Jorge; Natalie Fraas and husband Michael. She also was blessed with ten great grandchildren, all of whom will miss her very much.
She was predeceased by her parents, Robert L. Farner and Linda G. Farner (Smyser) as well as a sister, Nancy J. Golden.
Her life was enriched not only by her family, but also by her many friends in Carlisle and in Florida, where Walter and she spent the last 27 winters. She and Walter loved to dance and were members of many local private clubs. She also loved reading, sewing, gardening, playing cards, camping and bringing laughter to others. Although she was mainly a home maker, she worked various jobs and also volunteered at a variety of charities.
Her smile and creative sense of humor will be greatly missed. She lived life to the fullest and was loved by all who knew her.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 15, 2014, at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle with Reverend Carol J. Bowman officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in Louise's name to Celtic Hospice of Carlisle, 220 Wilson Street, Suite 100, Carlisle, PA 17013 will be appreciated.
