Lorea G. Howe, age 90, of Carlisle, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2017 at UPMC Pinnacle Carlisle Medical Center.
She was born March 22, 1927 in Harrisburg to the late H. Elmer and Z. Velda (Farner) Gastrock and was the widow of Henry T. Howe.
Lorea was a 1941 graduate of John Harris Area High School. She retired from the Carlisle Area School District after 32 years of service as a Secretary at the Wilson and Lamberton schools. She and her husband Henry were foster parents and she loved helping others. She enjoyed professional hockey, games shows and was an animal lover. Lorea was a longtime active member of the Carlisle Church of Christ.
She is survived by: two daughters, Robyn (husband Ali) Arab of Nashville, TN and Vickie Bear of Camp Hill; a foster son, Randall Miller of Modesta, CA; four grandchildren, Todd (wife Audrey) Bear of New Bloomfield, Chad Bear of Mechanicsburg, Neil (wife Meghan) Bear of Mechanicsburg and Alex Arab of Nashville, TN; four great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Melinda Howe of Carlisle; and her special friend, William Boldosser. In addition to her parents and husband, Lorea is preceded in death by her son Barry J. Howe; brother Ronald Gastrock; and sister Velda Gibbel.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Chris Krotz officiating. Burial will follow at the East Harrisburg Cemetery, Herr Street, Harrisburg. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Capital Region Division, 1019 Mumma Road, Wormleysburg, PA 17043, the Humane Society of Harrisburg, 7790 Grayson Road, Harrisburg, PA 17101 and/or to the Carlisle Church of Christ, 971 Walnut Bottom Road, Carlisle, PA 17013.
