Lois Brownawell

Lois Brownawell, 89, of Carlisle, died Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at her residence.

Born in Carlisle Springs, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Anna (Smee) Hockenberry and wife of the late Robert Lee Brownawell, who passed away in 2019.

Lois worked for many years at the Village Food Market, Carlisle Springs. She was a very active member of Young’s Church  of Shermans Dale and, until her passing, was the oldest active member and was very supportive of the church softball team.

She loved bowling, participating in many bowling leagues, and putting together puzzles, completing over 100 since her husband died.

What brought the most joy to Lois was her family. She enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s events as well as her monthly breakfasts with her four sisters.

Lois is survived by her sons: Dennis (Bonnie) Brownawell, of Aspers, Roger (Colleen) Brownawell, of Lewisberry; her five grandchildren: Ashley Brownawell, Shelby Elicker, Garrett Brownawell, Lauren Pendelton, Sara Grim; her four great grandchildren: Rogan Kidd, Dexton Thomas, Landen Elicker, Trey Mackey, as well as her sisters: Rena (Robert) Brunner, of Sherman’s Dale, Myra Ruppert, of York Springs, Audrey Kuhn, of Boiling Springs, Wanda (David) Cupp, of Sherman’s Dale. 

Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral service 1 pm Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, Ltd., 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, where the family will greet guests after 12 pm prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lois’ name may be made to Young’s Church of Shermans Dale, 101 Youngs Church Road, Shermans Dale, PA 17090.
