Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home

LeRoy W. Schwalm, age 90, of Silver Spring Township passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on October 31, 1923 in Spring Glen, PA, son of Mae (Schwalm) Fry. He was raised by his Grandparents William "Bill" and Alma (Coleman) Schwalm.
Remaining to celebrate his life are, his loving wife of 67 years, Joyce (Dunkelberger) Schwalm, a son Vaughn LeRoy Schwalm of Pine Grove; a daughter Holly Joyce Schwalm of Mechanicsburg; three granddaughters Jennifer D Schwalm; Tricia D Carbaugh; and Sarah J Baer; four great-grandchildren Abigayle Hurley; Tyler Buchenauer; Maci Carbaugh; and Haylee Baer; a loving sister Eva Beury of Ashland, PA; two half-brothers Marlin and Edward Fry and two half-sisters Doris Frankenstein and Marlene Jenkins. He was preceded in death by his great-grandson Christopher Seiff.
LeRoy served in the Army Air Force as a Flight Officer, serving as a bombardier/navigator on B-17 aircraft. He retired from the Navy Fleet Material Support Office (FMSO) in Mechanicsburg, as a Budget Analyst Supervisor, after over forty years of federal service. He was an active member of St. Matthew's United Church of Christ in Carlisle Springs, where he served for many years on the consistory, taught the adult Sunday School Class, and served as Church School Superintendent. He also served as Treasurer for the Mercersburg Association of the United Church of Christ for many years. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 109, NARFE 1816 Mechanicsburg, Members 1st FCU Senior Citizen's Coffee Corner, and the Mechanicsburg Sportsmen's Association.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 22, 2014 at St. Matthews United Church of Christ, 3240 Spring Road, Carlisle. A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew's UCC 3240 Spring Rd, Carlisle, PA 17013 and/or Hospice of Central PA 1320 Linglestown Rd, Hbg, PA 17110.
