Leah R. Henschen, of Carlisle, died Monday, January 30, 2012 at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
Born in Carlisle, she was the daughter of the late Selwyn and Agnes Hilgartner Rebok and the widow of first husband, Dr. Robert H. Myers and second husband, Homer E. Henschen.
She was owner and operator of Myers Pharmacy which merged with MGM Pharmacy, where she continued as partner, following the death of her first husband Robert Myers.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Allentown and the Carlisle Garden Club where she served four years as secretary. Leah was the second runner up for the volunteer of the year for Carlisle’s Finest Award sponsored by the Sentinel in the late 1990’s. She was an avid bridge player.
Leah was a member of Second Presbyterian Church where she served on the Board of Trustees and the Board of Deacons. She was financial secretary for the Presbyterian Women and a member of the Prayer Shawl Ministry. Also, she was the originator of the “Chrismonsâ€Â at Second Presbyterian Church.
She was a member of the Carlisle Civic Club and served as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee for six years, served as yearbook chairman and in 2010 received a recognition award for years of service.
Leah was on the Board of Directors for the YWCA where she served on the committee in planning, fundraising and constructing the new building. She also served on the Board of Trustees. She was 2003 recipient of the “Georgeâ€Â Award for community involvement. Also, she was a volunteer assistant to the mentally challenged.
She was an auxiliary member for 35 years for the Carlisle Hospital and treasurer for four years.
Leah was on the Todd Memorial Board of Directors, where she aided in years of planning, fundraising and construction of the new facility. She was president of the Todd Women’s Auxillary.
Surviving are two daughters, Sharon L. DeVenney (and husband, Robert) of Carlisle and Nancie M. Booth (and husband, Craig) of Salisbury, MD; five grandchildren, Jenna Bowne (and husband Ben) of Savannah, GA, Kyle L. Mills (and husband, Daniel) of USAF Wichita, KS, Natalie T. Booth of Salisbury, MD, Andrea M. Warner and Addison R. Warner, both of Carlisle; two great-grandchildren, Sydney Rose Mills and Jack Tyler Bowne. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha A. Warner and her first husband, Robert H. Myers.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 17, 2012 at Second Presbyterian Church, Carlisle with Rev. Jeffrey W. Gibelius and Rev. John Larson officiating.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
