Leah Ickes Pickel, 91, of Carlisle, died Monday, March 31, 2014 at the Church of God Home, Carlisle.
Born December 15, 1922 in Landisburg, she was a daughter of the late Edgar Nevin and Ida Ellerman Ickes and the widow of Amos W. Pickel who died in 2004 after fifty-four years of marriage.
She was a 1940 graduate of Landisburg High School. She graduated from the Carlisle Commercial College in 1942. She worked at the CH Masland & Sons and retired from George's Flowers as office manager after thirty years. She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she as a member of the WELCA, Beginners Department, and Katherine Von Bora Sunday School Class and treasurer of the Bethany Guild. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and a charter member of the Carlisle Swim Club.
Surviving are one son, Gregory K. Pickel of Carlisle; one daughter, Cynthia A. McKeehan (and husband, Samuel) of Carlisle; one niece; one nephew; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Arlene Jacobs.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 4, 2014 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 West Louther Street, Carlisle with Rev. Carol J. Bowman officiating. Burial will be private at Mt. Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Landisburg. Visitation will be held on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
