LCDR (Ret) Stella May Schmaus passed away on Monday, January 12, 2015 at Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community in Carlisle, PA.
She was born in Carlisle on March 18, 1930 to John and Stella Manning Schmaus and graduated from Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing in 1951.
She served in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1974 with assignments in Charleston, Cuba, Spain, Patuxent River, Stabans, NY, Boston and Philadelphia. Her favorite assignments were Cuba and Spain. She was a member of St. Patrick Church.
Stella is survived by a brother, John M. Schmaus, nieces Lisa Brousse and Sue Nagle, as well as six great nephews, two great-great nieces and two great-great nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, James Henry Schmaus.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Rev. William C. Forrey at Cumberland Crossings, Davis Dining Room, on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Her remains will be interred at St. Patrick Cemetery at a private family service with military honors.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
