Lawson L. Thumma, 84, of Carlisle, died Saturday, August 27, 2011 at M. S. Hershey Medical Center.
Born December 28, 1926 in Carlisle, he was a son of the late Christopher E. and Mary Ethel Quigley Thumma and the widower of Dorothy M. Duffy Thumma.
He retired after 40 years of service as a carpenter from Carlisle Barracks. He was a Carlisle High School graduate, Class of ’44, who played on their football team. Lawson was a member of the VFW Post 477, Carlisle, the American Legion Post 101, Carlisle, the Masonic Lodge, and a 50 year member of the Zembo Shrine, Harrisburg. Lawson was a US Army veteran who served during WWII. He was also a member of the Mechanicsburg Flirts and Skirts and Whirl-A-Ways.
Surviving are three step-children; Vincent F. Duffy of Enola, Kathryn T. Kolonay of Marlinton, WV and Deborah B. Huff of Carlisle, one sister, Anna C. Shoemaker of Carlisle and companion, Jackie Nye of Mechanicsburg. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Harold, Marlin, Lester and Earl Thumma.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle with Lester Thumma, Jr. officiating.
