Lauren Michelle Wilhide-Greene passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Hershey Medical Center with her family and friends by her side. Diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in October of 2011, she fought courageously, battling the disease for eight months. She received a stem cell transplant in March of this year, and although complications arose, she remained steadfast in her faith and courage.
Lauren was born in Carlisle on December 26, 1980, the daughter of Larry and Patricia (Anderson) Wilhide of Newville. She graduated from Big Spring High School in 1999 and from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2004. Later, she received teacher certification in music from Kutztown University. Lauren loved music and hoped to make teaching others to love it her career. She was presently employed as an administrative assistant at Valley Forge Composite Technologies and had previously worked at Orrstown Bank.
Like her father, she was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and looked forward to attending games each year. In her childhood years, she loved to play softball and was coached by her dad for many seasons. Lauren and her husband enjoyed cooking for family and friends. They were looking forward to celebrating their second wedding anniversary on July 17th.
Lauren was an extremely caring person with a heart of gold. She had the ability to see the good in people, no matter what their circumstances. She attended the Newville First Church of God where she sang in the choir, helped set up a group to lead the singing during worship services, and helped with Bible School.
In addition to her parents, she is sadly missed by her loving husband, Jesse N. Greene of Newville, her brother, Matthew L. Wilhide of Cherry Valley, Illinois, her maternal grandmother, Mary K. Anderson, of Carlisle, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She also leaves behind her beloved labs, CJ and Reeces. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Charles H. Anderson, Sr., and her paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Nellie Wilhide.
