Larry L. Thimgan

Larry L. Thimgan, age 95 passed away on August 28, 2024, in Carlisle, PA., surrounded by his family.

Larry was born on Sunday June 23, 1929, in Murdock, Nebraska to Edward W. and Martha E. (Kuehn) Thimgan.

Larry honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. While in the Army he attended Army Security Agency School. After his service he served in the National Guard for six years. He officiated PIAA football, basketball, and baseball along with NCAA football and baseball for over 30 years in both Pennsylvania and Maryland. He retired after 33 years from the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier for the Carlisle Post Office.

Larry was a man of unwavering faith, finding strength and solace in his relationship with God. He was a source of inspiration and guidance to all who knew him, leading by example with his compassion and kindness. He was a shining example of love, faith, and devotion, and his presence in our lives will be deeply missed.

Larry is survived by his children: son Michael J. (wife Barbara) Thimgan, daughter Nancy T. (husband Royden) Mercado, five grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren and many other family members.

He was preceded in death by his wife MaryBelle Shover Thimgan. He was also preceded by his parents, a sister Florence McDonald and a brother Lester Thimgan.

Funeral Services will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Hoffman Funeral and Cremation 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle, PA., 17013. A visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until the time of the service. Pastor Jim Moss Jr. of Shiremanstown First Church of God will be officiating. Burial will take place following the service at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens.
