Larry James Crosswhite, 86, of Hanover, PA, passed away on July 31, 2024, at UPMC Hospital in Hanover, with family by his side.
Larry was born in Buckhannon, West Virginia on June 30, 1938, to Frank and Helen (Shreve) Crosswhite. After a few years his family relocated to Hanover, where he spent the rest of his childhood and resided for much of his adult life.
He attended Hanover High School and then East Stroudsburg College, where he met Jane Ziegler of Carlisle, PA. Larry and Jane married shortly after graduating and moved back to Hanover where they began and raised their family. Larry and Jane were married for 52 years, until Jane’s passing in 2013.
Larry was a career educator as both a teacher and then guidance counselor at South Western High School for 35 years. In his early years at SWHS he also coached football and served a term as Athletic Director.
Larry enjoyed many of the major sports and was avid reader of history and non-fiction. Post-retirement, he and Jane picked up on the game of golf. And they traveled frequently domestically, and occasionally abroad. What he enjoyed most was simply spending time with his wife, his family and his friends.
Larry is survived by his three sons: Michael Crosswhite (and companion, Deb Moran) of Hanover, PA, David Crosswhite (and wife, Betsy) of Wilmette, IL, and Douglas Crosswhite (and wife, Nancy) of Dickerson, MD. He has three grandchildren: Wesley, Shane and Jenna Crosswhite and a step-grandson, Matthew Inge.
