Kenneth E. Waters, Jr., 92, died Monday, December, 29, 2014 at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, PA.
Born October 23, 1922 in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Kenneth E. and Henrietta (Porteus) Waters.
Kenneth graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1940 and worked for Bell Labs until July 1942 when he joined the U.S. Army where he served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 17th Airborne Division. He received a Purple Heart from a wound suffered while parachuting into Germany around March 1945 and was then discharged in October 1945. He attended Bucknell University from 1946-1950 where he received a degree in Civil Engineering during which time he married Peggy Kohlhaas in October 1949. He joined Yule, Jordan, and Associates, P.E. in 1952 where he became a partner until he retired in 1982. He and Peggy started Water's Locust Point Nursery in 1988 where they grew ornamental conifers until 1996. They traveled extensively throughout the United States in their camping trailer for many years. In his later years, Ken assisted Peggy with many Penn-Cumberland Garden Club activities.
He is survived by a daughter, Katie (and husband Joe) Sokol, of Rileyville, VA and two sons, Matthew Waters of Mechanicsburg and Douglas (and wife Paula) Waters; four grandchildren, Dale and Laura Sokol, Rebekah Waters and Jennifer Waters; a step-grandson, Michael Pearson; two step-great-grandchildren Brighton and Maddilyn Pearson; one brother, Ed Waters of Jacksonville, FL and one sister, Jean Vandermark of Deposit, NY.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Florence Schwenz, of NY and Rosemary Sklenarik, of NY and one brother Walter Waters, WI.
Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
