Kathryn B. Sheaffer

Kathryn B. Sheaffer, age 97, of Carlisle, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the Thornwald Home in Carlisle.
She was born in Harrisburg on August 22, 1918 to the late Walter D. and Mary E. Burd Byers and was the widow of the late Arthur A. Sheaffer who passed on August 3, 2004 after being married for 65 years.
Kathryn was a 1935 graduate of Duncannon High School where she was her class Salutatorian. She retired from the US Army War College as a secretary. She was a member of St. Matthias Lutheran Church in Carlisle where she was the former organist and choir director for many years. She was a member of NARF and the North Middleton Senior Citizen Center and was an avid reader.
She is survived by four daughters, Patricia J. Cipolla of Carlisle, Carolyn E. (and husband Terry) Bair of Boiling Springs, Janice K. (and husband Nevin) Funk of Mechanicsburg and Marjorie C. (and husband Kenneth) Weary of Dillsburg; two sisters, Virginia Dowdrick of Marysville and Mary Eleanor Fissel of Mechanicsburg; five grandchildren, Daniel Bair, Heather Kuffa, Nathaniel Funk, Cara Daniel and Sarah Weary; and eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Kathryn was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Luther Byers.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at St. Matthias Lutheran Church, 3500 Spring Road, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Sarah A. Heintzelman and Rev. Lawrence A. Cunnings officiating. Burial will be at Letort Cemetery. There will be a viewing at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
