Katherine King [SERVICES POSTPONED TO 1/8]

Katherine King, of Carlisle, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2024 at UPMC Carlisle Hospital at the age of 89. Born in Marion, IN on December 10, 1935 she was the daughter of the late John H. and Ethel M. (Townsend) Long. She was the loving wife of Jackie “Jack” L. King, with whom she celebrated 70 years of marriage. 

After spending many years in Indiana, Katherine and Jack moved to Michigan to start raising their family and lived there for 19 years. They then moved to the Carlisle area in 1975 where Katherine worked in retail sales for the Bonton retail store for more than 15 years. She also served as treasurer for the former First United Methodist Church, in Carlisle. Most recently, she was a member of Carlisle United Methodist Church. 

Katherine was widely known by friends, family, and others alike for her excellent seamstress skills from which many in need of clothing repairs benefitted. Katherine also enjoyed making greeting cards. 

In addition to her husband Jack, she is survived by three daughters, Cynthia Lou King of Mechanicsburg; Vickie Jean Kiner (husband Timothy), of Dillsburg; and Melody Denise Henderson (husband Richard), of Clinton, NY. A son, Darnell John King (wife Karen) of Charlotte Hall, MD also survives her in addition to 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Carlisle United Methodist Church, 333 Spring Garden Street, Carlisle, PA 17013. A viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Katherine’s memory to Carlisle United Methodist Church at the address above. Interment will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA 17013
