Katherine E. Cornman, 90, of Newville, passed away while surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, November 20, 2020 at Green Ridge Village.
She was born May 23, 1930 in Pottstown to the late Harry and H. Geneva (Mumbauer) Schaeffer and was the widow of G. Leon Cornman who passed away in 2015.
Katherine was a member of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plainfield, where she was a member of the choir and printed the bulletins. She was a graduate of Boiling Springs High School and retired from Carlisle Hospital Laboratory as a Microbiologist after twenty years of employment. Although she worked full time, Katherine always found time to have a huge garden and lovely flowers when she lived on the farm. A visit to the farm was never complete until she showed you her flowers. Katherine enjoyed caning chairs and spending time with her family who she loved dearly.
She is survived by three daughters, L. Diane (husband Ray) Cornman of Carlisle, Deborah K. (husband Chester Jr.) Lebo of Carlisle, and Donna S. (husband Gordon) Ocker of Newville; three sons, David A. (wife Dianne) Cornman of Newburg, Donald L. Cornman of Carlisle, and Douglas E. Cornman of Mount Desert, ME; one sister, Marion Smyser of Carlisle; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, Katherine was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Trudy Cornman; her brother-in-law, Robert Smyser; and a great-grandson, Jackson Cornman.
Graveside services will be private and held at the convenience of the family at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle, PA 17013.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of Green Ridge Village for becoming Katherine’s “adoptive family”. During the difficult times these last eight months the family missed so much, but the staff stepped in and made sure she was cared for. When Katherine turned 90 in May, they helped her share her birthday cupcakes with all of the residents by taking her room to room to so she could share her cupcakes and her wonderful sense of humor with everyone.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Katherine to St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2070 Newville Road Plainfield, PA 17081.
